THE BEST AND WORST CURLY HAIR PRODUCTS OF 2023
Before getting any product for your curly hair, it has to be carefully selected, meet certain requirements and fulfill your hair needs. Curly hair is prone to dryness and other things that come with it like tangles, frizz and breakage. You want to ensure your hair care regimen consists of products that prevent or tackle these and improve your hair’s health instead of worsening it.
It should be noted that what makes a product good isn’t about its appearance or high cost. In fact, a brand may have the finest of packaging and still sell you lies. Some of these brands are especially concerned about making profit and your hair’s health is usually the least of their concerns. This is true because they are definitely aware of the dangers the ingredients their products are formulated with poses to your hair, but it’ll hurt you not them, so why would they care?
The irony of this is that there are products that are very affordable and are more effective and good for your hair’s health than others that don’t work but are ridiculously priced. So, the appearance or the cost of these products shouldn’t be what to look out for before purchasing hair products.
A good hair product should be able to deliver all its stated qualities. It doesn’t have to be entirely perfect, but it also shouldn’t cause damage to your hair in any way. It should also be free from harmful hair ingredients that can harm your hair and your overall health in the long run.
Some of these ingredients are there to make it seem like they are not selling you lies. Some brands producing shampoos may promise effective cleansing and the cleansing agent included are sulfates. Sulfates may indeed cleanse your hair, but it will over time lead to scalp irritation and hair loss. Now isn’t that a waste of money and a sad case for your hair?
To save you the time and stress of going through hundreds of reviews and ingredient lists to verify a product’s effectiveness and also to save you from the regrets of choosing the wrong product for your hair, I have compiled a list of the best curly hair products and the worst products for curly hair (avoid them, really.) in 2022.

This nutrient packed shampoo smells amazingly and promises stronger hair and hair growth and from the positive reviews, it is seen that it adds shine to the hair and doesn’t cause dryness and tangles. It can be paired with its conditioner, Mielle sea moss anti-breakage conditioner.

What’s better than a leave-in conditioner that helps take out the tangles in your curls easily and painlessly? This conditioner is sitting amongst the best conditioners because of its amazing ability to detangle and hydrate your curls and also eliminate frizz easily.

Humid weather as well as heat are definitely not friends with your curls. They are both known to dry out your hair and cause frizz. This gel right here is telling you you have nothing to worry about! Not even the fear that it contains harmful ingredients because it is silicone, parabens, sulfates, phthalates and mineral oils free.
It helps to hydrate your curls and also lock in moisture preventing frizz and flyaways. It also protects your hair from heat damage, humidity and UV rays.
4.
Briogeo be gentle, be kind aloe + oat milk ultra soothing detangling spray
One thing about the Briogeo brand that I love is the fact that they are out to make sure your hair is doing well! This brand always makes sure to leave out toxic ingredients in their formulations and provide products for different hair textures and concerns.
This detangling spray particularly is for people with sensitivities. This spray is fragrance free and doesn’t also contain lactose, gluten and mineral oils.
It also contains soothing ingredients like aloe vera, oat extract and natural oils to nourish, soothe and hydrate your hair leaving it shiny and without weighing it down.
5.
As I am coconut cowash cleansing conditioner
“This product is amazing…does exactly what it says!” Says a reviewer. Sometimes, co washing your hair with a cleansing conditioner might be the better thing to do if you have curly hair. Curly hair is prone to drying out so you might want to save the natural oils in your hair by co washing instead of shampooing . This helps to retain your natural oils while still effectively cleansing your hair from dirt, sebum and product buildup.
This conditioner is the perfect fit for achieving all that, and it also helps maintain your curls and promotes hair growth as well as silky, smooth and soft hair. It contains no harsh ingredients.
6.
Carol’s daughter repairing cocoon mask
This hair mask is packed with a lot of benefits. It helps to hydrate and seal in moisture and it also repairs damaged strands and protects dry hair from breakage.
“This is the best hair mask on any store shelf. It may be a little expensive but it’s definitely worth it” was what a reviewer said. This makes you want to grab it as soon as you see it on the shelf regardless of the price. It deeply moisturizes and detangles and is also free from toxic ingredients.
Worst products for curly hair
1.
Pantene pro-v nature fusion smoothing shampoo
If you want the best for your hair and yourself, you should avoid this shampoo. It contains everything that makes a hair product unworthy of usage. This shampoo claims to help fight frizz, make your hair healthy and leave it smooth and shiny. But looking through the ingredient list, I assure you you’re going to be ending up with the opposite over time.
This shampoo contains sulfates, and not just any sulfates, the exact one you should steer away from, Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Sulfates when used continuously can cause scalp irritation, they can also strip your hair of its natural oils leaving you with a dry scalp.
Another ingredient it contains are silicones. In this formulation dimethiconol, a silicone polymer is contained in it. This is what is supposed to cause your to be “smooth” and “shiny”. But silicones eventually cause buildups on your scalp and hair preventing absolutely nothing including moisture and oils from penetrating. You know what that leaves you with? Dry hair accompanied with breakage, so your frizz isn’t really going anywhere with this shampoo.
My advise for you is to just walk past it at the store, never add it to your cart.
2.
Tresemme rich moisture shampoo
The unfortunate thing about products with harmful ingredients is they tend to appear like they are working for some time. over time, its continuous usage will eventually show its true colors. While some people are lucky enough (maybe unlucky too) to quickly see the bad side of these products to discontinue it, some might not.
This shampoo claims to revive dry hair leaving it soft and shiny. Due to it’s ingredients list, I’ll not advise its usage. It contains sulfates, and silicones, these will do the complete opposite of what the brand claims the product does.
3.
Aussie total miracle shampoo
Isn’t it funny how a shampoo that was designed for damaged hair is formulated with ingredients that can further cause damage to it? The only miracle this shampoo will eventually leave your hair with is your hair going from bad to worse. Or how do you tackle dryness with a drying ingredient?
This product contains sulfates, silicones and Methylisothiazolinone. Sulfates are known to cause dryness, scalp irritation and hair loss. Silicones, buildup that prevents moisture from penetrating your hair leaving your strands dry and thirsty and Methylisothiazolinone is known to cause allergies and skin irritations.
4.
Garnier fructis grow strong shampoo
Garnier is also up there when it comes to making a load of crappy hair products. Do not be deceived by the natural ingredients contained in this shampoo, it doesn’t reduce the effects of the toxic ingredients it contains.
This shampoo is bad for your hair’s health and should be avoided. It contains a long list of harmful hair ingredients like sulfates, silicones, phthalates, phenoxyethanol amongst others. These ingredients are known to irritate the scalp, cause dryness and hair loss.
